15th Anniversary Edition!

Hello everyone! I have a new website where I am reposting this blog one day at a time as a way of reflecting 15 years later. In addition to reposting the vintage content, I'll be adding new sketches and thoughts. I can and can't believe how much the world has changed in 15 years. I took this trip in a post 9-11, pre-Obama, pre-Trump, pre-Pandemic world... before I got married, built a tiny house, had a kid, bought an old normal sized house, and had another kid.

Blythe - 53 miles

This is where I am currently in the library. I haven't yet composed my thoughts for the day so I'll change this at my next stop. I need to tap out John outside and let him come in. The continuation... Today was relatively uneventful. We descended from the Chocolate Mountains. I took pictures of Palo Verde Peak, agricultural canals, and fields. There was also a phenomenal sunset that was kept away by the fence of the RV park. We had an interesting interaction with a woman on the side of the road 14 miles out of Palo Verde. John's blog of the encounter really does it justice. But in short and until he posts... there was some "business" gone bad with a schizophrenic and a gun. How she is in the desert without water. Here at the RV park on the Colorado River it is noisy, but the water his hot. There's a pool, but it's not worth the trouble. I'm really getting into burritos. I had two yesterday and three today.

Grand Ridge - 57.21 miles

I let Claudia and Snowball go. They are in a better place now. Claudia quickly scooted away, but Snowball lingered for a moment. They probably would have just gone the way of my gold fish and my hamster, Sherman. I too would have tired of the turtles. Uncle Billy's Restaurant proved to have a tasty Billy burger, smooth banana pudding, and classic sweet tea. I was stopped taking pictures of lichen on a fence and the owner drove up wondering what I was doing taking pictures of his property. He seemed to think I was crazy when I told him what I was photographing. Stopping in Grand Ridge at Providence Baptist Church for the night, I found the youth and music ministers preparing for youth service. There was much conversation and it turned to my tan. I raised up my shorts a smidgen to reveal the dramatic line while accidentally revealing my bite/wound. I explained, but John Micheal quipped, "It looks more like a bullet hole."
